Goal 1: High Quality Instruction for Educator Candidates

• Objective 1: Build the capacity of SC educator preparation programs to embed evidence-based practices into preparation program coursework and clinical experiences.

• Objective 2: Provide feedback on the state level mentoring and induction materials to ensure a focus on educators of students with exceptionalities.

Goal 2: Tracking and Evaluating Policy

• Objective 1: Develop recommendations for revisions to special education licensure requirements.

Goal 3: Data Use

• Objective 1: Compile existing SC educator data into a comprehensive visual (data story) to better understand special educator shortages.

• Objective 2: Engage in a data dive on Project CREATE to understand what is currently collected and identify opportunities for needed data.

Goal 4: Sustainability and Scale Up

• Objective 1: Grow SLT membership to include professional associations, districts, general ed/leadership faculty, and other state organizations.

• Objective 2: Host quarterly “community of practice” meetings between OSES and SC educator preparation programs to build awareness of policies and initiatives that impact special educator preparation.
