  • Mary-Dean Barringer

    Mary-Dean Barringer serves as the strategic initiative director of the Council of Chief State School Officers’ (CCSSO) portfolio of initiatives supporting the transformation of education workforce systems. Initiatives include CCSSO’s Network for Transforming Educator Preparation (NTEP), supporting the work of a growing number of states and over two dozen national partners in their efforts to implement policy recommendations to create performance based systems of educator preparation the National and State Collaboration for Educator Effectiveness (NSCEE)—a network of 30 states and partners working on a continuum of teacher and leader development policies and practices that SEAs can undertake.
    Prior to joining CCSSO in December 2011, Mary-Dean held the position of Chief Executive Officer of the All Kinds of Minds Institute (North Carolina); Vice President for Mobilization and Outreach (1990-2000) at the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards and taught special education in Detroit for 13 years.

  • Saroja Barnes

    Saroja R. Barnes, Ph.D is currently the director of Educator Preparation Initiatives at the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) where she directs educator preparation initiatives that support state authorities as they implement policies and practices consistent with the CCSSO Task Force recommendations to transform educator preparation within an overall system of instructional improvement, ensuring educators enter the workforce ready to advance student learning and lead schools that support student achievement.

    Prior to joining CCSSO, Dr. Barnes was the Branch Chief for Educator Preparation Program and Assessment at the Maryland State Department of Education where she directed state and federal oversight and regulatory responsibilities for professional educator preparation including the approval of Continuing Professional Development courses used by Local School Systems, policy development and implementation in Maryland’s PK-20 teacher and principal preparation community, implementation of alternative professional educator preparation programs, and technical assistance to Institutions of Higher Education regarding National and State evaluation site visits.

  • Angie Anderson

    Angie Andersen serves on the Education Workforce team at the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) supporting its Educator Preparation initiative. Before joining CCSSO, she interned at Relief International working on its development and education team, and also worked at Global Washington helping develop global education competencies and support the organization’s strategic business plan.

    Angie graduated with a Master’s in Public Administration from University of Washington in 2012, with a focus on education and social welfare policies.

The Council of Chief State School Officers is a nonpartisan, nationwide, nonprofit organization of public officials who head departments of elementary and secondary education in the states, the District of Columbia, the Department of Defense Education Activity, and five U.S. extra-state jurisdictions. CCSSO provides leadership, advocacy, and technical assistance on major educational issues. The Council seeks member consensus on major educational issues and expresses their views to civic and professional organizations, federal agencies, Congress, and the public.
